Boarding Houses and healthy homes standards

• Does the home have working smoke alarms in the right places?
• Is the home secure with working locks on each bedroom door?
• Is the home free from holes or gaps in the walls, windows, doors and ceilings?
• Does the bathroom and kitchen have a working extractor fan?
• Does the home have ceiling and underfloor insulation?
• Is the home warm and dry?
• Does the home have a fixed heater in the main living area?
• Is the home free from visible mould and damp smells?
• Are shared facilities clean and free from pests?
• Is there a signed written tenancy agreement between each tenant landlord (including all required statements)?
• Does everyone have a copy of emergency evacuation procedures and house rules? Are they displayed in the home?
• If a bond payment was made by the tenant was a receipt provided?
• If a bond payment of more than 1 week has been made by the tenant– is it lodged with Tenancy Services?
